Brian Stone is our newest Harbor Commissioner and was elected in November of 2016. Mr. Stone is a graduate of Golden West Community College with an A. A. Degree in Social Science. Mr. Stone then graduated from California State University at Dominguez Hills with a B. A. Degree in Geography and American / Urban Studies. Following collage, Mr. Stone went to work in the Title Insurance Industry and eventually attained the position of Chief Title Officer for Transamerica Title Insurance Company in Placer County, California. Mr. Stone then went to work for the California State Controller’s Office working with Local Governments land and property tax issues. He held the position of a Land Agent for the Bureau of Tax Deeded Land and was promoted to a Governmental Program Analyst for the State Controller’s Office dealing with Tax Defaulted Land and property tax collection procedures. Following the passage of Proposition 13, Mr. Stone worked as a Governmental Program Analyst on the reallocations and redistribution of property taxes in all of California’ 58 Counties. Mr. Stone then went on to work for the California Seismic Safety Commission (CSSC) as their Legislative Analyst / Legislative Liaison. As the Legislative Liaison for the CSSC, Mr. Stone worked with the State Legislature on the development and enactment of numerous Seismic Safety laws that are in effect today. Following the 1989 San Francisco Earthquake, Mr. Stone worked on the successful passage of more than 143 Seismic Safety Laws. After retiring from state service, Mr. Stone went back to private industry where he ultimately started his own trucking company. Mr. Stone retired in 2009 and is now devoting his time to working for the community as a Harbor Commissioner..
