The Crescent City Harbor District is currently recruiting for the following positions:
Harbor Commissioner (vacancy appointment)
The Board of Harbor Commissioners is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a vacancy on the Board. The successful candidate will be appointed to serve as a Harbor Commissioner for the remainder of a 4-year term that began in January 2018, and will expire in December 2022. Candidates must be available to begin serving on the Board no later than April 15, 2021.
The appointee will serve in an elected office, and as such, may be subject to recall by the registered voters of Del Norte County, pursuant to Election Code §11000, et seq. The appointee may continue serving on the Board in a successive term if the appointee garners the required number of votes from the registered voters of Del Norte County at the next general election on November 8, 2022.
Summary of Duties:
• Planning, Goal-Setting, Evaluation: The Harbor Commission helps plan the Harbor’s future, and then guides Harbor activities in that direction. This planning process involves the Harbor Commission, CEO/Harbor Master, Harbor staff, customers and citizens/voters. The process usually includes identifying a Harbor’s mission and goals and developing strategies to achieve them. The Harbor Commission is ultimately responsible for evaluating and updating the planning process.
• Harbor District Policy Making: The Harbor Commission develops and adopts Harbor District policies to implement Harbor District goals and govern the many facets of Harbor District operations. These include developing guidelines for long-term economic development, establishing positions and employment policies, and adopting budgets.
• Budgeting: The Harbor Commission approves and adopts an annual budget. Some key budget decisions include authorizing and adopting tax levy amounts, adopting policies, approving purchases, and disposing of or distributing supplies, property, and equipment.
• Designating the Harbor’s CEO/Harbor Master: The Harbor Commission is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and evaluating the performance of the CEO/Harbor Master. The Commission delegates responsibility for day-to-day administration of the Harbor to the CEO/Harbor Master, and respects that delegated authority.

The Crescent City Harbor district is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee all accounting and bookkeeping functions at the District. The Director will supervise and train District Customer Service staff. Duties include but are not limited to: Financial Reporting and Accounting supervision; Payroll Prep and Administration; Budget Preparation; Project management Accounting; Information Technology and Risk Management oversight. Qualifications include verifiable history of progressive successful financial management responsibility.
