Board of Commissioners

The Crescent City Harbor District is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, elected by the community to provide leadership, oversight, and vision for the harbor. The Board is responsible for setting policy, guiding long-term planning, and ensuring that the harbor continues to serve as a safe, vibrant, and sustainable hub for commercial, recreational, and cultural activities.

Dan Schmidt, Commissioner

Term: 2024-2028 As a trial attorney and journalist, I have the temperament, skill set and experience to help the Harbor avoid failure. Such an outcome would destroy the commercial fishing industry and result in a loss of hundreds of jobs and many businesses that represent a lifetime of work. The harbor was once and can be the economic pearl of Del Norte with new jobs and economic opportunity. I believe in professionalism and civility in the manner in which Harbor business is conducted, especially among colleague commissioners. I believe in keeping the budget under control. In the past, it was leaking faster than we could bail it out. We must keep discretionary spending frozen and keep the public informed of where every dollar goes and why it is being spent.
